The Application

The ACO London Heritage Scholarship is open to post-secondary students from all types of trades and academic programs and disciplines, including applicants from outside of the London area — so long as the scope of their project has a clear connection to built heritage within the London and Middlesex County region. Part-time and international students are also eligible to apply.

The purpose of this scholarship is to:

  • Provide financial assistance to a post-secondary student who has completed a project or acquired new practical skills within the last year that relate to and/or promote the appreciation of built heritage in the London/Middlesex region.

  • Reward exemplary work in the development of hands-on heritage trades skills, historical research, promotion, and/or education relating to heritage conservation in the London/Middlesex region.

  • Create opportunities for post-secondary students to connect with the local built heritage community in order to further their career development and provide networking opportunities in the London/Middlesex region.

Example projects may include: a showcase of heritage conservation trade skills developed in college trades programs; a written article, thesis or paper; an art installation; an exhibit; or a public education opportunity related to architectural heritage (e.g. instruction on repairing wood windows). Creativity is encouraged!

The winning recipient will receive a $1,000 grant, a one year membership to ACO London, and two tickets to the annual Heritage Awards Gala held in mid-February in celebration of Ontario Heritage Week (attendance is encouraged but not mandatory to receive scholarship). The recipient may be asked to display their project at the Gala — this is an opportunity for the recipient to showcase their work to the London area heritage community and to network with future clients and employers.

All applications must include the following:

  1. A completed application form, including a brief description of the project and how the project relates to the purpose of the scholarship.

  2. Proof of current enrolment in a post-secondary institution.

  3. A copy of the project (if a physical copy is not possible, a photo or video documentation of the project is also acceptable).

Applications will be accepted until end of day December 31st, 2018.
